What makes PTFE a great bush material?
PTFE has the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material, is chemically inert to virtually all industrial media, and operates reliably from cryogenic temperatures up to roughly 260°C. Because it is self-lubricating, a PTFE bush needs no external grease — eliminating contamination risk and a recurring maintenance task.
Material grades
- Virgin PTFE — maximum chemical purity and the lowest friction, best for light loads and high-purity environments.
- Glass-filled PTFE — higher load capacity and creep resistance for structural bushings.
- Carbon / graphite-filled PTFE — improved wear resistance and thermal conductivity for dynamic, higher-speed duty.
- Bronze-filled PTFE — excellent load and wear performance where chemical exposure is moderate.
Selecting the right bush
Match the grade to the dominant demand: chemical purity, load, speed or temperature. Allow for PTFE’s higher thermal expansion when specifying clearances, and consider a filled grade wherever sustained load could otherwise cause cold flow.
